I used search and found info but only C and D casting numbers,Hope someone will help.I have a 72 390 w/D2 Heads 2bbl sense the intake gasket is bad thought about a 4bbl intake. However I havent had any luck finding one except this one cast # E42T9425-BB and 4J19 with a X above it. The year is 84 but will it work for my D2 heads?
The D2 intake Gasket should be the same regardless of the carb....the ports are the same size... All 390's that came in the trucks came with 2bbl carbs on them from the factory...
I think he's looking at intakes Russ? They didn't make a 1984 FE intake, so I'm guessing it's a 460 intake? Where's Bill(numberdummy)when you need him LOL!!
I run across the cast ones all the time while at the local pick your part yards, on 1/2 price day they run 35.00 + tax IIRC Having the patience and knads to pull one of the heavy sob's is in short supply though LOL
My recommendation would be to make a gasket out of silicone and forget about gasket kits.
Put a good 1/4" bead down, let it skin over for 40-45 minutes and carefully set the intake, being careful not to let it move your handywork. A cherry picker engine crane can be quite helpful in this regard. IMHO

Yeah Larry I didnt notice that before...you could be right ..he may be looking at the AA-Ab-BB intakes for the 460's... is best bet is to just take an old gasket down with him and match it up... I dont know why he would be looking for at an 84 Head gasket for a 72 head?? Oh well? lol

I don't know why you would consider a iron intake manifold. New Edelbrock rpm intake manifolds are only $300 and some change. Under $300 for a performer.
Loose the extra weight and buy a new one.
As a general rule, nothing with casting numbers of D7 or later will fit an FE, especially not an intake, heads, etc. They didn't even make them for Ford Power Products after that.
Do the 460 intakes have pushrod orifices? That should spell it out right there IMO. The FE head uses the intake as it's final leg and the pushrods go through the intake.
To clarify I was asking if that intake will work with the heads on my motor,
Simply...........No.
I'm still puttting dibs it's a 460 intake which is a whole other family of engines. In those years, or later they did offer a 4bbl factory intake on the F350 trucks. I drove an 86 with one.
You need to find a 60's or early 70's casting date. Like Bob mentioned, the FE has 1/2 the head as part of the intake. Very easy to distinguish between it and other designs(once you realize it).

Ford didn't offer the 4 barrel on the 460 as an option. IT WAS ALL THAT WAS AVAILABLE on cars or trucks. There were no 2 barrel 460s. The 429 had 2 Barrel intakes but all 460s were 4Vs.
Ummmm RRuss, there was a 4 barrel 390 offered in the trucks in '75 & '76, maybe earlier as well. The manifold used was a low profile iron job, and the carb was a Holley 600 with special boosters. DinosaurFan, on Jr's 'puter

Well Dino there's not a day go by then that I dont learn something on this old FE Iron !! I truely was not aware of that...
and Bear...if I'am not mistaken ....One of the Oficionado's of Ford that lives up the road from me has a 69 or 70 T-bird with a 429 with a duece carb on it..I'am not sure it was factory or not...Never asked? but it looks factory?
