FE Motor Intake Question

Happy Saturday!

A friend of mine is giving me an intake for my 360 which is going into my '58 F100. The 360 is a low mileage rebuilt '76 CA engine with the 2 bbl and smog. I stripped the exhaust, intake, front end, and pan to paint it. my plan is to put a get rid of the CA smog cam, put a 4bbl, and long tube headers. That will be plenty of power for what I need.

A friend is giving me a Ford 4bbl intake part number C2AE9425C. Scoured info on it and from a different post here I was able to get a pic and info that this was probably off a '62 Galaxie 390. I know the intake is cast and very heavy but I don't have a problem with that. Kinda like the old school look too. My heads have casting numbers of D2EAA and another that is 203.

I know the intake will sit on these heads but will the port openings be different sizes? Also, will the intake gasket be the same? My plan was to buy a '76 360 Felpro gasket kit . Do I need to use a different intake gasket than the one that will come with the '76?

Thanks

That manifold should work. Check the port surfaces for straightness. Check for a locator pin in the block also.

Being that the 360 is a low compression motor, don't go nuts with a cam. In fact, you can probably just stay with the same cam. Headers and the (smallish) 4bbl will give you a nice improvement over the stock logs and 2bbl.

Epic 360/390 thread with manifold troubles. See post 66 for the short version manifold chapter. Note also this is in the FE forum, where you may browse for days and read countless tales of the FE, including the guy who regularly ran his 360 to 7000 RPM, and the answer to the question "how do I get better mileage out of my FE?":

1958/64 FE engines were only installed in cars, have rounded valve covers without holes for smog valve or oil caps, have an oil fill tube on the right front side.

2D11 = Intake manifold cast April (D) 11, 1962 (2).

The D2TE-AA heads w/hardened valve seats were introduced in 1972.

Appreciate the responses and the link. I'm not going to go crazy with a cam. I'll check out the FE posts about the differences in port openings and gaskets.

You might also want to read up on the valve timing. I think at some point they retarded it for smog so you might need a different timing set to bring that back straight up. I don't think there were any specific "smog" cams, but maybe Kaliforny was different.
