Wire dome light through toggle switch?
Has anybody wired the dome light(s) through a toggle switch or factory upfitter switches?
I have a 2003 Super Duty crew cab - I'd like to turn the dome lights off if I have the doors open for extended periods.

Not as easy as you would think. You have a interior lights relay in the instrument cluster. See if you have a fuse #35 in the underdash fuse box for the courtesy lights. Leaving the fuse box will be a black/lightgreen wire. If you could find this wire, and add a switch to it, that would kill power to the relay, which should kill the lights. You might want to pull the fuse first, and see if that kills the lights.

Find the wire that goes to the door switch that controls the dome light.
Splice your toggle switch into that wire.
That is what I did on my E150.
To make removal and replacement of the switch easier I terminated the wires with a male/female spade connector with matching connectors on the switch.
I used shrink fit insulation on all the connectors and over the joined male/female spade connectors.
I used a double pole single throw switch (and about ten feet of new wire) to control the light functions on two doors at the same time.
