I everyone I have a leak coming from my IP , I be leave it is coming from the weap hole it is not a lot but I can smell fuel . I have a 1994 F350 4 door it has a 7.3 turbo on it an 199,834 miles I replaced the motor 2 years ago . When I take my IP off what do I have to line up so everything will run when I put it back together. Thank you for your help Rick
First off, Place a clean piece of paper under the IP, then run the motor for a few, pull the paper out and look where the fuel is dripping ... If if aligns up with the weep hole, the front seal is gone, replace IP.
The following is written for IP gear cover re-seal and not for a Turbo motor, but gives basic info needed ... Just follow up to the point of step 16, "Remove 4 bolts holding the cover.", you do not need to remove the cover unless you want to re-seal it at the same time, if it leaks I would!
Injection Pump Gear Cover Re-Seal Basics.
Unplug IP wires.
Rotate Motor to TDC #1.
Remove #1 Glow Plug.
Place Finger over Glow Plug hole.
Bump motor over until you feel air forced out.
Hand turn motor to TDC. (Harmonic Balancer mark and Pointer)
If you go past TDC, Do not rotate motor backwards, Rotate motor TWO revolutions by hand to TDC.
Unhook Throttle linkage.
Remove Throttle Return spring.
Remove Throttle linkage bracket.
Unplug High Idle Solenoid wire.
Remove High Idle Solenoid.
Unhook Return Line on IP.
Remove Fuel Supply line.
Unhook Injection lines at the Injectors.
Remove Oil Filler Neck. (or IP gear bolt access cover)
Remove three 12 point bolts holding drive gear to IP.
Put a mark between IP and IP cover to preserve timing.
Remove three nuts holding the IP to gear cover.
Remove IP.
Remove 4 bolts holding the cover.
Remove Cover.
WARNING!!! DO NOT ALLOW THE IP GEAR to disengage from the Cam gear!
Make two marks on the IP gear at the block surface (one on each side) just in case the gear gets moved.
Clean up block and IP gear cover OIL FREE ... Cleanliness is pretty much everything in a good, long lasting seal!
Apply 1/16" bead of Permatex Ultra Grey to the center of the sealing surface and around the bolt holes.
NOTE! I prefer NON Sillycone Semi-drying sealants, I use Yamabond 4.
Permatex HighTack Gasket maker is good stuff as well, Although a nightmare to cleanup next time.
Ok thank you, I did that an I can get my hand under a feel the under side of my IP an the fuel is coming from it feels like a allan bolt ( sorry that is the best way I can what it is ) an it is to the back end of my pump when I fell to the front it is dry as far as I can tell . I will do it again when I get home an let you know what I find out . Rick
