Hello.. I am going to be replacing the voltage regulator in my truck this weekend (All my guages are dead and I think I narrowed it down to the IVR). I picked up a new one, but I can't figure out how to detach the old instrument voltage regulator from the plastic circuit board. My biggest fear is that I might break the plastic circuit board if I don't take it of the right way. What is the best way to get the circuit board detached from the IVR? Thanks!
James, it connects the same way as the clip on a 9-volt battery. You're smart to be concerned about the flexible circuit board. Take a thin-bladed screwdriver and carefully pry apart the contacts each a little at a time and they will pop off. Be careful not to put any stress on the circuit board. The new one will snap back in, push straight down.
Well, I got it installed with no problem. I carefully pried off the snap connectors with a small screwdriver and it popped right off. It still didn't fix the guages, but at least I know that part is good. There isnn't alot left to diagnose in the circuit.. so I guess I should try replacing one of the sending units next.
