A lot to absorb here. I do not know if Ford has released their numbers yet on the 09' F-150 but I think this article might do just that. You never want your competition to upstage you.

Very impressive....I like what I see here...
I hope Ford comes up with something quick! IMHO a 390 HP Doge V8 would work better than the Ford V10 in a 3/4 ton truck, as you'd see lots better fuel economy with it...

Ford's make more torque. Dodge's 4.7 revs higher. Only thing "wrong" is that Dodge focuses on a square engine and Ford has always had undersquare engines. I prefer lower torque production of a Ford engine.

the hemi would work in a 3/4 ton no problem, but gotta remember that dodge's 3/4 and 1 tons are a lot lighter than ford's; and while the ford may not be the fastest thing on earth, it'll be less affected by heavy loads to the point it'll be faster with a big load and uphill

I don't think 32lbs of torque would help the hemi here... the last hemi made it's peak torque at 4400 rpm... I don't see it doing much better in this one honestly. it would make a badass entry level gasser for the 3/4 ton though, to compete against the 5.4... which it would do quite a bit better than, though...
haha, dude, Toyota people are a cult... they have embedded in their minds that "toyotas are better" and will not let go of it... if you call them out on it, they're always the most reliable and longest lasting vehicles on the road... yet you never see/hear of super high mileage toyotas that are put through hell day in and day out. I've yet to see a tundra with a snow plow... or a 40' travel trailer behind it. or a toyota ambulance or fire truck... and I've yet to see an avalon taxi/police/etc car.
it is mighty nice of them to wait for the lightning and srt10 to stop production so they can come claim 'the fastest truck' award... heh.
Good point about the torque side of things, but I guess I was thinking how it would be a great alternative to the V10, especially since gas is as expensive as it is.
For example, I have a 24 foot enclosed car hauler, which weighs just over 9,000 lbs when fully loaded. My F150 does a good job pulling it, but if I were to ever tow it more than a couple times a year, I'd want to get a 3/4 ton truck. Now, upgrading to a heavier truck with that same 5.4L motor would be a bit pointless, IMHO, and I think the V10 would be a bit overkill for how much I tow a heavy trailer, especially at the cost of ~10-12 MPG the rest of the year when I'm NOT towing!
I think we need some more juice out of the 5.4, especially in the heavy duty models!!!

Fords are built to do it today and tommorrow and a generation later! TOY-otas are made for people who likes to be different . Hp aint everything, torque is what you want in a work truck. Them Fords are PURTY GOOD in that department.

Wife has a new 09' Camry XLE. Sticker $32K bought it for $28K. There's a reason it's the #1 selling car in the USA. As for the Tundra? Neighbor just bought a new Limited $41K for $32K. A great truck for the price. These people I just referred to believe in quality and history being the judge I think they got just that. Competition is incredible today and has FORCED the Big 3 to rid themselves of that bad reputation they acquired by selling inferior, over-priced vehicles. Quality has improved and the playing field has become more level as a result. I can't understand for the life of me why Ford is dragging their feet on the new F-150. Their lots are full of 08's I understand but the best selling vehicle in America MUST present itself NOW. For all the world to see, drive, and buy.
390hp...definately a must as your truck sits on the ramps waiting for the 2nd transmission to be replaced. the 390 hp is where?? computer calculations??? crank measurements?? lets see the RWHP for fact...actually, lets talk more about the '09 F150 in here rather than the '09 whatever everyone else has??
The '09 F150 is said to have the lowest hp/torque numbers compared to the competition relative to the other big V8 engines...when released with the 5.4L.
"IF"...the 6.2L BOSS was going into the '09 F150...then that would be another story.
Guess hp/torque isn't everything in these days...

The Hemi torque curve (2008) is very flat having over 300lb'ft from 1200rpm to 5700rpm. Peaking @ 375 @ 4200rpm. Much like the 5.4L does.
Even for what it was, the 01 5.4L that I had pulled pretty well for a 2V engine, but really lacked the low end grunt needed to tow 7500lbs. I'm sure lower gearing would have helped, but Ford seems to be stuck with 3.55 gears and 32" tall tires. May help highway MPH a little, but not real easy to get 14K of weight moving from a dead stop. I am sure that the VVT once the bugs were worked out, helped the low end grunt of the 5.4L, but I never could afford one of those.
The 5 speed auto (08) is also much better than the earlier problem ridden 4 speed autos.
Ford builds a tougher truck, but the Dodge is no slouch either. The Hemi is a very capable engine. Plenty of usable power and will get over 20 mpg on the highway.
The 09 is even stonger.
I think that this competition for power and MPG is great. It will make these engineers earn their money and come up with something to make ample power and MPG that is hopefully affordable and will keep the big 3 in business.

Let's go over some stats for the 09 Ram.
It was speculated earlier that the Hemi would get over 20 mpg, but that is not the case.
The most fuel efficient model would be a regular cab 4x2 with the 3.7L V6 and 3.55:1 rear axle good for around 14 city/20 highway mpg.
The Hemi will get a 4% bump in fuel economy which turns out to be less than a 1 mpg gain.
Max towing is only 9100lbs.
Max payload is only 1850lbs.
In other words, the only thing the Ram can haul is @$$...

Tell me what sane person would want to tow 11,300 lbs with a half ton?
The average payload rating for the 08 F-150 is around 1800-2100 lbs, besides the few models that can have the payload package. That is not much higher then the Dodge.
The ram is a quite capable machine, and it will be interesting to see how the coil suspension is. From what I've seen, it should be on the lots by the 2nd week of september
Going by your logic there, all previous generations F-150s cannot haul a thing then

in comparison to all competition at the time, they were well ahead of their league... as in this case.
