Thanks for the assistance. Unfortunately my local dealer has no knowledge of this approach. The service manager even owns an 08 Diesel and hadn't heard of this. They are "investigating".
Their recommendation: cover up the autolight sensor with tape. It works, but it is not what I had in mind.

As you can see from the thread I forwarded you to, you are not the only one who has run in to the issue of the dealer having no knowledge of this. The information posted by FTE/PARTS-GUY should be enough to get your dealer started.
Full information can be found in the workshop manual. Here is a link to it...
In section 418-01 module programming it clearly states that programmable parameters are cutomer preference items that may be modified by the dealer via scan tool. DRL's are a programmable paramter.
The daytime headlight feature on the Canadian vehicles have headlights on a reduced power and no tail lights or clearance lights. Covering the light sensor will leave headlights on full power with tail lights and clearance lights also illuminated.
PowerStrokeHD has the solution in Post #5 above. I think this daytime lighting feature has greatly increased the safety of being seen from an oncoming passing vehicle. Go for the new programming to get daytime lighting. I wouldn't be with out this safety feature.i
I contacted Ford directly. They replied that my truck (by VIN#) did not have daytime running light capability. I want a method that does not dim the interior lighting and that does not have full headlight illumination.
Any other ideas?

Well what Ford told you is right and wrong. Based on information retrieved from your VIN your truck does not have DRL's from the factory. However the capability to turn them on (giving you exactly what you want) is there in all 08's.
All the information you need can be found in the post I made above. Just print out the workshop manual pages and take them to your dealer. If they can not figure it out from that, it is time to find another dealer...
Anyone have a picture of their 08 with the drl lights on? I am wondering what they look like. I would prefer my fog lamps or driving lights be lit unless the drl's do not look all that bad.
I suspect the dealer is going to tell me, as he has previously indicated, that I will need to have a new SJB (smart junction box); probably at my own expense.
I believe you are correct; check with another dealer.
Thank you for your help.

A new SJB, oh boy. The just need to hook up the computer to your truck and change the SJB programming parameter for DRL's from disable to enable. Simple as that...
