adding daytime running lights
I actually chose to disable mine. It looks better with just the clearance lights on. I was able to just pull a fuse (#47, I think).
Not familiar with the '99, but maybe it's as simple as putting IN a fuse.

Yes DRL are added, and there are several different aftermarket methods and kits. Check out just about any truck magizine's ads.
As a 30 year motorycyle owner/rider and instructor, I hate several things:
1: Brain dead left turning idiots who don't clear their path.
2. Cell phone attached to the ear permantly ( quick calls don't bother me, the chatting butt head or bimbo does)
3. DLRs, more on this!
4. Dark tinted drivers window, more on this too!
Most motorcyclists are killd or maimed by inattentive car drivers. Rarely is a truck involved.
Well trained motorcycle operators have learned to look at all the hazards and do a "what if" in their head and plan a route of action if a particular car does that stupid thing in the "what if".
Has saved my life hundreds of times.
Part of the defense for motorcycles was/is the headlight ON requirement.
DLRs have diluted the environment and now there are enough headlights on, that the motorcycles do not stand out as different.
A step back safety wise in my experianced professional opinion.
Same with dark tint or reflective gold or silver.
Good motorcycle operators have learned that looking right at the driver of a car that is in a position to do something erratic or stupid allows the bike rider to see if the car driver is really paying attention or fiddleing with the radio, reading a paper/map, putting on lipstick/shaving, or any of a thousand other stupid things that takes away thier 100% attention from the road.
Behind tint I have to always assume the driver is stupid and be ready to react. Makes for tense unpleasent riding.
Well that is fine for me, trained and experianced. But what of the sons and daughters out there that do not have 30 years of experiance?
Yes I am a trained senior MSF instructor, and an Army trained safety officer. 32 years driving experiance in countries all over the world and here in the USA. Been hit in the rear twice and t-boned a German mercedes once on ice.

It is an undeniable fact that a vehicle is easier to see, even in bright sunlight, if it's headlights are on. DRL's are especially effective on those overcast days or during the dawn and dusk hours. Numerous studies have been done to prove that DRL's save lives, if anyone's interested, I'll dig them up.
The saying goes "Lights on for Life".
FredVon4 makes an interesting point abuot motorcyles though.
I do, however, wish I could disable my DRL's when I'm on hunting trips.

P.S. Karic - I believe that disabling the DRL's on any vehicle equipped with them from the factory in Canada is illegal. No big deal I'm sure, just a heads up.

I happen to know that every state that made motorcycle headlights on all the time mandatory, had a measurable decrease in motorcycle vs car accidents.
I doubt there will ever be a new study to determin if DLR have an adverse impact on motorcycle safety.

I'm sure you're right, but I figure if the local police cars don't have them..............................
I do carry the fuse in the glove box, just in case, tho'

Maybe Ford included a similar workaround...

In my 1994 Ford F150, if I put the emergency brake down one click, it shut the daytime running lights off. Not something I'd do all the time. Just when it would be handy not to have them on.

I'll have to try that.
Thanks,
