'96 OD Light Flashing
I have a 1996 Ford Econoline 150 Conversion van. My calls and says, "I think the transmission is going out. The overdrive light is flashing and this thing does not seem to have any power. What's wrong?" Of course, the problem started this morning on her way to work and she is telling this when she is almost home. I have not checked the codes yet since I am still at work. I have checked some other forums and it seems there may be some question as to how Ford programmed the PCM for the '96 OD trannys. I do have an OBD-II code reader and will check when I get home, but how much damage could she have really done?

Forgot to mention: the van has 180K on it and I have had the tranny fluid changed las year before I started towing with it. Also, during the fluid change I had the tranny inspected for condition. I was told it was in good condition and should give me plenty of trouble free service.

The OBDII on '96 150 series works pretty well. There will be a code stored that will tell you where to look. If you can't read any codes that means your reader isn't fully compatible with the vehicle.
As for how much damage was done, depending on what's wrong it will range from no damage to destroying the trans. Without knowing the codes it's impossible to even have a reasonable geuss.
