Unhappy 01 Ranger

I am new here so maybe someone can help me. I ran the code reader on my truck. The codes were PO171 and PO174. I looked it up and it says lost communtation with restraint systems b and e. I am not so sure what that means. The truck runs great. Can some one clue me in..Thanks

PO171 and PO174 are lean codes, which means the cylinders are seeing too much air and/or not enough fuel. The most common cause of lean codes on both banks is a vacuum leak. What engine does your truck have?

Seeing that it's an '01 4.0L SOHC, I have two suggestions:

1. Leaky rubber hose at the PVC valve assembly;

2. Leaky O-ring intake gaskets.

You're welcome.

For reference, the PCV valve on your 4.0L SOHC located at the rear of the driver side valve cover, inside of the larger rubber "elbow" hose that is shown in the photo. It has a coolant heater loop around its body to prevent water from freezing and blocking the PCV system in cold climates:

Also, should you determine that the intake gaskets need replacing, then go with new Ford gaskets. They have been redesigned and are thicker and fit better.

P.S. Welcome to the site.
