I had an interesting problem which got me wondering...
I have been experiencing sluggish performance and bad gas mileage. The dealer basically said they can't troubleshoot bad MPG...
Recently, my computer got reset to try to fix another problem - by disconnecting the ground battery terminal for about 10 minutes. After that, my performance was significantly better... Night and day. I was towing my trailer and it was like it wasn't even attached.
Am I imagining that this could have fixed anything? Is there any thing I can do to keep this performance level? (ie, reset the computer every month?)
I have experienced the same thing. I have a '05 and changed the battery. This is my wife's vechicle and show noticed an immediate change in power, performance, and increased fuel mileage. It gradually went back to the way it was over a few thousand miles. I too would be interested in learning if there are any tips or tricks on this.
Would be helpful if an expert mechanic could explain how resetting the engine computer would improve performance like that....sounds like it cannot refresh itself and begins to accumulate stale adjustments over time.
Recently, I had to disconnect my battery for an alternator replacement and didn't find a noticable change afterwards, but then again, it was running pretty well already before the disconnect.
Was hoping someone could explain this... Maybe variables in the compuater changed over time and not for the better... The reset probably went back to factory default numbers...
This get me thinking further about putting a chip in the thing - one that is defined for the Expedition. Anyone getting better gas mileage and more power as a result of a chip? recommendations?
