Michelin makes an LT "E" rated tire that does well on the highway and on wet roads and gets reasonably good fuel economy (from what I have been told). It just does not look like it would do well in the sand and mud.

They didn't fail. I tow heavy trailers 90% of the time and they just wear out faster. I rotate the tires every oil change (5000 mi) and check the tire pressure monthly. I got a large bolt stuck in one of the tires. They could have gone another 3-5 thousand miles but with one bad I thought iI would replace all of them.

By fail, I meant what was the "end of life" reason. Thank you for answering a poorly worded question. I haven't towed a lot so far, but I am getting ready to do more of it and it just surprises me that it would cut the life essentially in half.
Did go by the door sticker and keep 65 lbs air pressure in them or did you go closer to the tire max? I have heard a few say that 75 psig can cause premature wear, but my experience is the opposite. I also get better mileage.

I managed to get 45K out of my Goodyear AT/s but they did wear down really fast when they were new which I presume would be because they are softer than normal. As they became harder, wear decreased significantly. At 15K, I had worned nearly 50% of them already and managed to stretch it to 45K after.
I replaced them with the BFGs you mentioned and I love them for what I do but they are wearing down fast as well. Only 10K on them now and they have significant noted wear especially from towing heavy loads. If I can get 40K, I'll be happy.

I too only got 30K out of my set (I tow alot too). I replaced with more goodyears but I lucked into tirerack having a sale for $149 a copy. sorry I just checked and they are back to $240. I had a set of Nitto's on my F150 supercrew that I traded in for my SD and they wore well I was pretty happy with them. If I didn't find that really cheap price I would have bought Nittos or BFG's.

I dont have the 20's on mine but I replaced my Continentals with the BFG's. I was going to get the Wrangler AT/S' but the reviews on them werent that good. I had a 99 F-150 that had them and they had 37,000 miles on them when I traded it and they had over 1/2 life left in them. I like the BFG's for the snow and crap up here. They work good for me. I tow a fair amount keep them up around 55-60 psi, they seem good no noticeable wear so far 5k on them since replacement.

Thanks for the input poeple. I do run the recommended air pressure. It came down to price that made me pick the Goodyears again. $880 out the door installed for the Goodyears or $1400 for the BFG's. I thought I got a good deal till I found out slengland got them for 149. Bad timing again. : )
