78 hood latch

Guys,
This probably should be in the paint forum but I know I'll get more responses in here. What color is the hood latch for a 1978 F250 supposed to be? painted black (flat, satin, gloss) or just left a natural metal gray color? Where they painted from the factory or coated with anything?

Do any of you ever lubricate the latch mechanism frequently?

Thanks,
Eric

All the ones I've ever seen have been rusty, in fact one I saw had a bent bolt to open it with. I lubricate mine to keep it working smoothly.

The (2) '74s I have don't have much rust on them, and they appeared to be painted a flat or satin black.

As for lube, I shot mine with silicone spray every couple months. More in the winter time, then summer, just to keep it from freezing shut. The biggest thing I have found is if you keep the latch aligned, you don't need to lube as often.

I lived in AZ for 5 years and got tired of the heat and traffic. So I came back to the home land before the bottom fell out of the housing market. Couldn't be happier I did, until days like this when it's sleeting all day.

By the way johaner, if you need any misc. parts let me know. I have a 74 F100 4x4 that I am just starting to part out. Haven't really got a start on it yet, but if you need something let me know.
