[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-May-02 AT 09:30 AM (EST)]When Im driving at night my headlights flip on and off. They are not rhythmic and they have no ryhme or reason. The dash lights and everything else electrical have no problems and dont even dim. I had a cop tell me that he thought it was the bright light switch. I dont know if he is on top of things or not. What makes them flip on and off????
Well it could be the brite/dim switch. They get corroded and wear out, so it could very well be the problem. Also check the connections on the headlight switch, the brite dim switch and the headlights. One more thing comes to mind it may be the headlight switch itself, there is a built in circuit breaker that gives problems similar to this. Or the circuit breaker may be fine it just may be corroded connections in the system.
Didnt really help much did I At least you have some ideas on things to check out.
well i replaced the dimmer switch and it is still doing it. I jiggled every wire on that truck and also jiggled the headlight switch. i guess its time to replace the headlight switch eh?
Two things, first check the ground wire that goes from the battery to the radiator support. Second if that doesn't work then go for the headlight switch and when you pull that out if the plug on the wiring harness is dis colored or melted you can get a new end to put on the harness. If you don't replace the plug that is bad you will have problems in the future. (Been there done that)
its the switch have had 4or 5 go bad on truck I have had. and had a shop for a while we replaced a lot of them they have a breaker built in the switch and it gets bad the switch heats up and the breaker kick then cools off a little and back on a gine.most of the time you can drive for 30 min or so then light go off for a fu sec and then back on .will findly go off and not come back till switch cools off compleaty still check your wiring too but this is a commom ploblem with all Fords cars and trucks
I've got the same problem in my '94 F150! I mentioned it to a friend who told me his Taurus did the same thing and there was a recall on it, but I have found no recall for the F's.
Go to the link below and find a '94 Taurus (same exact problem). Maybe this could be enough to get Ford to fix it?? Its really irritating.
I read about old Ford's having something called "Flashing Lights Syndrome" sounds like you have a good case of it, heh. The part number for your year truck is: D3ZZ-11654A Should be about 20 bucks and any parts store should have it or be able to get it. I just got done replacing the one on my 64. Sure wish I would have known about the button release for the ****, (on top of the switch body itself) hee. Still a 5 minute job
