I don't know what kind of stick welder you have but for bodywork you realy need to use a wire feed that you can adjust the power and wire feed. You can get one fairly cheap. Do alot of tacks going from one side to the other to avoid warping. A hammer and dolly can eliminate ALOT of the need for filler
Hehehe, reminds me of seeing chevy guys slamming their doors in the winter and seeing huge chunks of bondo fall off(crappy back yard bondo jobs-1" thick or more).
Also had a friend who had an early 80's Ford Capri-was a decent looking car until he hit a moose-then found the entire roof was caved in, someone must have used about 5 gallons of that crap just to reshape the roof of the car-instead of fixing it or scrapping it.
It is a filler, and a magnet should stick to the sheetmetal on a proper fix.
blasting can only warp things like hoods and roofs as theyre so flat and not as much bracing. And even then, thats only if you dont really know what youre doing, and its a hi powered blaster. A little blaster you would have to really be trying to warp something.
That stick welder will give you alot of trouble with warping if youre not super sharp with it. I suggest a 120v AR/CO2 shielded wire feed. You can pick em up for around $150
At least make yourself a hard screen-wire patch panel.......it all depends how long you want the patch to last/how long you're gonna keep your truck. I'm using the fiber-glass reinforced Bondo for the big spots, fillin' the small spots with easy-to-use, lightweight Bondo some people find the fiber-glass reinforced stuff easy to use, some people don't, btw
