I have a 1971 F-250 that needs a new motor. I am going to replace the 390 with a diesel. I am trying to decide on what to put into it. Here are the choices I have come up with.
1: 7.3 powerstroke
2: Cummins
3: The new V-10 VW is coming out with for there new Toureg (sp?)
This is going to be a slow project in which I will be modding and upgrading a lot of the truck. What do y'all think of these motors or do you know of a better motor?
Hard to beat a Cummins or Powerstroke, but you left out IH's other hidden jewel. The DT360 is just a wee bit bigger than the Cummins 5.9 and is a little cheaper to buy. If you were looking for something a little different that still packs a punch.
As for keeping the 390, I am not concerned with resale value or how much it might be worth to someone else. The reason I am going with a diesel engine is that it is easier to produce bio-diesel than it is to produce ethanal.
