i got the old one off, but other than the plug and play harness, there are 3 wires coming from the tcase that go into the old shift motor. what do i do with them? how do i got those 3 wires into the new shift motor?
this morning with old motor - 4x4 light was stuck on, and i couldnt shift into 4x4
now with new motor - 3 unplugged wires coming out of tcase, but 4x4 light goes on and off and i can hear 4x4 engage now (YESSSSS), but the power steering feels a little funny...
I'll try to remember back to rebuilt mine. I know that one of them goes to energize the electric coil for the shift on the fly. The other two, I believe, go to a sensor that lets the truck know that the 4x4 is engaged. Is there any way that you can take a picture? Wire colors would be helpful too. Maybe someone has a diagram or I have some old pictures of when I replaced mine.
Your speed sensor should be in the diff. What year, model, and make is your truck?

Reason: Added info
Here is a pic of when I messed with mine.
The picture is a little blurry (darn the beer involved in a tranfer case teardown) but you can see where the wires go to. Keep in mind this is for a 95 with a Borg Warner 1356 ESOF. Yours might be different. The coil wire is brown and the proximity sensor wires are blue and green if I remember correctly. These are at the rear of the transfer case and I have the tail housing removed. You should be able to access them without removing the tail section.
The coil energizes to magnetically lockup the mode hub while the shift motor is turning to engage the linkage that keeps it locked. Once the linkage turns (and the proximity switch sees the connection) power is taken away from the coil and the mode hub is engaged mechanically. Hope this helps!
wires are blue green and brown (maybe black but really dirtys, this comes out from the center). my new shift motor harness didnt have the center prong like the old one. will i have any driveability issues other than not being able to shift while moving?
I'm not too sure about other drivibility isues as I don't know the full operation of the shift computer. That might be a question for some of the other guru's on this site. Another source of info is the 4x4 and offroad fourm on here. I found a diagram of the wiring on another site. I hope this helps.
