ICP sensor

I have a 1999 F250 7.3l and it keeps dieing on me so i had a buddy hook it up to his computer and it says the icp is bad. is there a way around it if not can i get one other than at a dealership? Could there be a easy fix for it besides replaceing it? And in advance Thanks for the help

You can simply unplug the sensor to make sure it is bad. The truck will default to a ICP pressure table in the PCM and run basically fine. Yes, you can run the truck this way w/o doing any damge. If it is the sensor, check e-bay. You should be able to find one for around $50.

ICP sensor is on the driver's side oil rail that sits on top of the head. It's just behind the alternator.

The ICP is one of the easier parts to change, but you need to make sure there's not some other issue with your engine oil being wrong or too dirty, or an IPR issue that is setting the ICP code. Do you have a chip or tuner in your truck? They will sometimes throw an ICP code also.

Can your buddy hook up his computer and monitor ICP pressure and IPR percent to verify that's what the problem is before you start throwing money at it?

You can unplug the ICP and look for signs of oil contamination inside the plug. That is one of the signs of a bad sensor. The ICP is the round looking thing sticking out of the inboard front side of the drivers head. It has wires plugged into the end of it.

Your fuel injectors run off of engine oil that's been pressurized, so proper, full oil and regular oil changes are very important. You can look for oil contamination in the plug on the ICP, but you really need some more data to determine if the sensor is bad, or it the low ICP code is just in relation to the IPR %. A bad IPR or a tuner or chip can throw the ICP codes too.

It wouldn't hurt to start with that. It probably needs to be changed anyway. Like Chris said, there could be more to it than a bad sensor. Need more info to determine if the ICP pressure is not reading correctly (bad sensor) or there is another problem and it is reading correctly.
