tylus, I think orginally I had two problems with the tranny, the fluid and filter change has taken care of the shuddering for the most part. The down shifting is as you say is random, may go two or three days and not do it at all and then do it two or three times in ten miles..... I'll check the module, thanks.
Being that yours is a '94, I'd guess it's an AOD-E, but my '90 with the AOD had a TV cable that ran from the top of the throttle body in the engine bay to the tranny. It was right next to the accelerator cable on the throttle body.
Wow!...don't recall having seen that torque converter out before. That is really some cool magnification photography or that sucker is just plain huge! How many quarts does it alone hold!
jroehl, I was going to check out the tranny this afternoon, but decided to change the fuel filter and plugs in the other truck........ at least now I'll know what I'm looking for when I do look, thanks.
wish I could tell you the name or had a picture. each time mine went bad, I took it took a tranny shop. they didn't even have to pull codes. I described the symptoms and they instantly knew the issue. some $$$, maybe 15 minutes and my trucks shifted perfectly afterwards
'96 150 xlt with the 4R70W transmission-"shuddering"
My transmission started doing the "shudder" that is described by you guys here. It would happen at speeds of 50 through 70. The same feel and noise as if you are running along the "hey, you are drifting onto the shoulder (ridges)" that are on the interstates here in NC. I drained the transmission and torque converter, dropped and cleaned the pan and magnet. Replaced the filter and gasket and refilled with new Mercon V. I simply followed the instructions by Mark Kovalsky that is linked in the '97-2003 thread and I can not replicate the noise or vibration now. It's GREAT! This is day one and I've a trip to Raleigh and back which is 180 miles round-trip. If the problem comes back I'll post an update.
