Hi everyone, I had a minor leak around the kick down shaft on my C6 for quite awhile. My 40 year Ford transmission guru told me that they all eventually start leaking as the square cut o ring isn't designed to hold back the head pressure of the oil when the vehicle sits without running for a period of time. I removed the linkage, RTV'd the area around the o ring and reassembled everything minus the linkage so it doesn't move. I know it's a cheesy repair but I figure I can just pull it down into second from the colunm if I need to pass someone that badly. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm just curious.

A good idea, but your RTV fix won't make it very long.. If you replace only the kickdown's o-ring, it'll take 15 minutes and you don't have to open the tranny- just remove the kickdown linkage, neuteral safety switch, clean out the rtv boogers, exchange o-rings, reconnect the linkage and you're done.
OR- to be really sure, drop the tranny pan and valve body and replace the gear selector shaft o-ring from the inside (you can know zero about trannys and do this easily).. I just did this repair- it will take you an afternoon and about $2.00 in seals. Gives you a reason to clean the tranny filter (free) and replace the fluid too (another $20.00). It was a messy job, but no more leaks, and with the clean filter and fluid, the truck shifts better now.. good luck!
