4R70W shift kit
hey guys
i have a 96 f150, 5.0 4x4 that is going to need a new tranny, and i was wondering what shift kit people recommended for the 4r70w? the truck has a 4 inch lift, 33's and is a dd and weekend wheeler. also, what stall converter would work well? any help and opinions are appreciated.

Forget the shift kit, just turn the epc solenoid a quarter turn and maybe change the 1-2 accumulator spring.
I wouldn't worry about trying to change the stall on your DD 4X4, just don't get a Dacco reman converter.
Maybe use a bigger cooler or a deeper pan.
The ALTO 3-4 clutch pack works well with this trans.
Also replace the intermediate sprag.
Watch out for worn valves in the valvebody, I see this all the time!

Interesting comments on 4R70W. I had rebuild last year and got it back with a Dacco converter. I installed a B&M shift kit before putting in vehicle. No real performance change. Strong vibration at idle and up to 2000 rpm. Took it to trans shop and got hard time. They are now out of business. Took to another trans shop recommended by local mechanics and racers. They confirmed the Dacco converter was 0.040 inches out of round. They said they find alot of their junk. They didn't care for shift kit. They built me a new valve body with their mods. They gave me back an excellent transmission for half of what I paid B4 and told me to spread the word. If your near Harry's Transmission in Wellington, OH they are great.
