I just installed a K&N intake to my 7.3 02 with 94k on it driving intown and getting hard on the throttle plus a little high way . i am getting over 17 mpg that was including before the K&N intake also. ( on paper doing math. )
I will be towing mt 24' enclosed tuesday with it for the 1st time ill see how MPG is then.
My dads 04 F350 MPG metter is realy accurate. he said its always withen like 1 mpg .
Well I went and looked at the truck. He does not hand calculate the milage, he uses the truck calculator. Just out of curiosity how inaccurate are the built in calculators?
I have compared the computer to manual calculations and overall have been close. However, as KON says above, it can vary. I usually compare mine after a trip or full tank of gas burn through. The last trip I went on while towing showed 9.8 on the computer and manual was about the same. This is after 150+ miles. Now, I can guess that, like a speedometer, it could get out of whack with different tires (again just a guess). I have seen a lot of posts on the subject and a huge variance on responses. good luck!
Im still on my first tank of gas in my '00 V10, not sure about gearing. The truck has over 153k miles and when i picked it up, the computer was saying 12ish. I put in new plugs and boots, and two cans of BG44K before the fill-up. The lie-o-meter now reads 9.2 but I do expect that to go up after all the crap is cleaned out of the engine.
The mpg meter on my 2000 V10 seems accurate every time I've checked it. You have to wait for it to average itself out. It would be nice to know how it determines how much fuel it is consuming via injector output or fuel level sensor. Based on the above comments it appears that it works better on the gas engines versus the diesel.
