I have a 1980 F350 4x4 with a C6 tranny. It started leaking and thought it was the pan gasket so I changed the filter and gasket, filled it up and started it. It still leaks! Seems it wasn't the pan gasket but is leaking on the passenger side above the pan. I am not sure what it is but there is a small squarish plate with looks like 4 bolts just above the pan on right side and fluid is pouring out the bottom in spurts. What is this plate? and can I remove it a replace the seal / gasket? I certainly do not want to screw up the tranny in any way. I cant seem to find an explode view that shows the right side of the tranny housing. Anyone know what this is or had this problem before? any help would be appreciated. Thanks
would that be the servo? not sure, not in the garage at the moment but there is the servo plate on the passenger side and the dipstick... i think thats it, never paid attention much when my dad rebuild a c6
I would take it off, but be careful, it looks like there is a spring behind it that might fly out. But the diagram should help you get it back together.
pound out a gasket and check the o-rings. on the c6 diagram Franklin2 put up, #113 and #114 are the gasket and o-ring. These are hard to find if you wanna do it yourself. a transmission shop will help ya out, but i have no experience with my local shops, i buy a rebuild kit and refresh my c6's (me n my dad rebuild 2 so far, my 2wd f150 is next)
local auto parts store? I mean its an easy part to take out and replace 1 o-ring and a gasket.
Go jack one from a junkyard or buy a new one. id buy a new one because the truck c6 servo is sloppy.
options:
1: buy a rebuild kit to refresh the c6
2: find some parts at a transmission shop (will call some places tomorrow for a price)
3: auto parts store
4: look at some websites like TCI, c6-c4.com and some other places, get you hooked up with some parts
The intermediate servo only has fluid pumped to it when the transmission is in second gear according to the transmission shop. As it turned out they told me to look at the cooling lines as he has seen it before where it looks like the servo. He was right the cooling line connection just above the servo was leaking! Thanks for the help guys!
