Im re doing my exhaust, my plan is to dump it out in front of the rear tires. It seems that everyone around here just runs their duals straight out the back.
Im wondering what some of you guys have done?????Pics????
I ran mine straight out the back. Dumping them in front of the tires sounds a lot louder in the cab, which I don't like personally. Dumping them out the back is more expensive, but I like how it looks much better and sounds smoother in the cab.
I chose to put my exhaust out before the tire due to laziness honestly. I didn't want to stay late at the shop. I don't mind the noise. I always keep telling myself I will put them out the side past the tire, but it has yet to happen. Everyone has their exhaust out the back around here so I don't want that
I have mine running behind my rear tires. Didn't want the exhaust blowing on me when I was hitching up the car trailer. It was only $300 at the exhaust shop to go duals all the way behind the rear tires with 2 1/2 inch pipes and turbo muflers.
Mine currently dump just behind the cab straight out of the glass packs, but really close to the rear axle. I didnt like the thought of the exhaust blowing on my gas tank, and shocks etc.
I have it planned to use 45s and come out like "73f100shortbed" did. Only thing that comes to mind is that I have bushwacker flairs, do you think being that close to them would melt of dis-color them.
I have dual welded thrushes dumping right after the cab, its incredibly annoying around town but sounds really good otherwise. It was lazyness that stopped me from being more creative, I'm going to run it closer to the axle with some turndowns and see it that quiets the drowning a little.
If anyone is considering flowmaster but doesn't want to spend the money I highly recommend the welded thrushes, they sound exellent, if you like the flowmaster sound, to each his own though.
26" glasspacks right off the headers, it's not as obnoxiously loud as one might think but it is loud, has a very nice throaty rumble at idle, it's not for everyone i realize but personally i like to hear the sound of combustion taking place, flowmaster it's not lol.
I started today I had to shorten the pipes up between the manifolds and the glass packs about a foot.
Then I couldnt find the right angle of prebent tubing, so I got creative and created my own. I looks like the angle is like a 75.
Since I cannot find the camera cord, I will have to go out and buy one so I can post up some pics.
Anyone have a crossover pipe between the duals? Any advantage to that?
i run an H-pipe on all of my dual exhuasts. the reason for one is that when your exhaust is pulsing, it draws just a little air back up the pipe after the air exits in between the firing of the cylinders, making your exhaust have to work a little harder to push the next pulse out. the H-pipe allows for the air to equalize so that it never has to push against the negative pulse. makes it much more responsive in the low end. the word is if you put your pipe about 18 inches back from your down pipe or headers, you will get the best response. i know its all confusing but thats the way i was told it works and it makes sense if you think on it.
For an equalizer pipe, spray the first few feet of your exaust with spray paint... fire the truck up and drive it around till she warms up, then lay into the throttle for a bit. Taker home and put you H or X pipe where the paint stopped melting off... This works best when the engine is in tune... aka if it is rich or lean the exaust temp will be alot different. Myself, im opting for fenderwell exit long tubes to 2 1/2" pipe, then stacks with 24" glasspacks. Would go straight pipe but i think it might be a bit unbearable in the cab.
