Just a note about stacks on the '73-'79 trucks. I love stacks always have. I have built them on a IH Scout w/pick-up cab, '62 Chitlit, '72 F-100, and '77 F-100. Problem whith these trucks '73-'79 is the back of the cab tilts forward unlike the others I listed. So with the pipes fit close at top of the bed they come out several inches away from the top of the cab, just don't look right to me. I aint saying don't do it just take a look at it befor you spend the money

Here's mine

3" off headers to 3" Dynomax Super Turbos, out to 2.5" pipes and bullet resonators. All done in the garage. Flowmaster makes great "U Fit" Kits that work well on a 2wd.

When I swap transmissions I plan to add an X pipe.

Thanks for all the help. Now I am armed with enough info to tackle this thing without relying on the salesman's limited knowledge. thanks again for everyone's patience.

Ok, now I feel like an idiot. I decided to find out if what I had been told was correct. Turns out it was not. I have the regular old 351M. Got headers for it from hedman and they fit great. Duals all the way out the back with two magnaflow mufflers (straight through design). The performance increase was amazing. Its like a different truck. Yehaw!!

I'm in the same boat you where in. I baught my truck for $350 from the family of the man who passed away. They said he put a new engine (used) in, but since I couldnt ask him personally, i'm still trying to figure it out. The valve cover has the 351w sticker on it, which is the motor i prefer, but i'd like to be reassured. I was told to look at the valve cover's, 351m & 400 will be wide and slanted and 351w will be skinnier unslanted.

Solution to the 351w, I saw someone had an adapter plate, but custom built will probably be what happen's. I'm not in a rush to get this done though, I have plenty of other project's on this truck to work on.
