speedometer error effect on warranty
speedometer error effect on warranty
My speedometer is off at least 5-7% new OEM BFGoodrich tires correct pressure at 65MPH on the speedometer my GPS and ScanGauge show 61 MPH. Anyone else notice an error like this? Is this adjustable some way?
My thought is that works out to 4,000 to 6,000 miles less on the truck at 100,000 miles and end of the diesel warranty? No big deal if nothing bad happens but multiply that mileage by half million or more diesel superduties and X's and that is a lot of missing warranty miles

I would get your speedo recalibrated. Did you buy your X used and maybe they had bigger tires at one time? I dont think they charge much to recalibrate or if you have a tuner I heard you can do it yourself.
Most, if not all cars have the speedometers off. Normally it's around 3mph @ 70. They (the factory) say its to provide a buffer for speeding, but we all know its to roll up the miles quicker... However, normally if the car is within a few thousand miles and it's a legit problem the factory will cover the problem.
I read about a class action on another board, with a different brand.

Honda had a class action law suit against them at one time for inaccurate odometers - it was estimated that by the time the average owner hit 36k (warranty expiration) that the car actually had only 34k on it (about a 5% difference).
Yeah my speedo is off by 4%, that means when my odometer reads 100k miles that I only really have 96k miles on it. You better believe if I have an exspensive repair around the 101-103k mile mark I will be raising he!!...... While many think this a a speeding issue, I believe the auto companies know what they are doing and they save a ton of money on warranty claims due to this practice! I guarantee that it's just a nice cover story to say it's to help with speeding!

The problem is that the EX was designed for 285/75/16 tires and they come equipped with 265/75/16 tires.
The little tires were a stop-gap for keeping the the truck lower for easier soccer-mom ingress-egress, corporate roll-over liability worries, and to
improve towing handling without going to firmer springs, radius rods etc.
If you put 285/75/16's on your speedo will be spot-on.
I put 315/75/16's on, and thus am extending my warranty
