my fathers truck died today my brother went and got him and toed the truck in. said the the high pressure oil tank was low they filled it and it would crank but as soon as the oil was gone it would quit done this three times. what tells this tank to fill? please help thanks in advance
It's just a direct feed from the LPOP on the crank. The only thing that would cause it not to fill is if the LPOP completely quit. I would crank the crap out of it and watch the oil psi gauge. It will come up while cranking if you have oil psi. If it doesn't, I'd double check it with another external gauge..
I don't think that's your problem.
First thought: Cam Position Sensor (CPS) I think it fires long enought to pull oil out of the HPOP res, but doesnt run long enough to fill it. Or something along those lines. When a Powerstroke just dies out of the blue like this, 97% of the time it's the CPS.
Next thought: How much oil is in the motor? Low oil, it will do what you describe.
Next: Fuel PSI. Open the fuel bowl, pull the filter and look inside the little hole twards the top of the drivers side. That's the Fuel pressure regulator screen. It should be nice and shiney silver. It's probably black as hell. Take a Qtip stick (no cotton) and gently brush the crud off. You will need a small mirror and flashlight to see it good.
Next check the fuel psi on the outside of the fuel bowl on the drivers side at the schrader valve (tire air valve looking thing.) You can use a normal tire psi gauge, just know it will be messy. But you should see at least 55 psi. at idle.
Check Oil, and how old the oil is. (remember, these engines use oil as hydrolic oil too, so oil health is very important.)
Check fuel psi, and the fuel pressure regulator screen (FPR screen)
ok here we go .had great plans of driving this truck home today but no luck. sure enoff would run till the hpop run out of oil so started back tracking removed the plug from lpop and put in a gauge no pressure at all.so them i tear the lpop off the georo has a little wear so i go get one and with high hopes replaced it still no go so tear it back out check every thing packed it with vaseile this time to help it prime faster still no go sad well mabe the pickup is broken so i put 2 8in blocks under the back tire and add a gallon of oil just to see if it would pickup. running out of the dip stick at this point . no go. really tired and got to go to work in two hours so any help would be great thinks hooked a snapon code reader to it but wouldn't run long to throw a code. had a old cam sensor no go icp read 0.23 ipr read 15 % had a friend do it said he didnt know a lot guess what me neather .please help thanks .
good point tim, may have got the wrong port when he check ed oil pressure, dont you have a good link in your webshots of an easily accessable oil port? if the low oil is good sounds liek a wasted hpop

Sure do! Its the 1/8 inch pipe plug that is mislabeled in my pic. Its the one I use for the supply of my bypass filter
The valve is located inside the cam cover or engine front cover.
Be sure you have one:
Engines built with serial number 201681 through 375549 are equipped with the de-aeration valve.
Engines beginning with serial number 375550 were redesigned and did not incorporate the valve.
