The advice to run a trans hotter than the chart above comes from the very same people that designed the front seal and wimpy trans cooler causing our e4od's to fail prematurely...Says so in his signature anyway.
Im with you, I want my mind at peace taking that chart as a secure for my tranny, and I installed a transcooler, to be more safe, and I feel very happy getting under 190*
I dont want you to think that I am picking on you. I think having someone here that actually helped design the trucks we love is fantastic. I would like to put a name to one of the biggest pieces of junk on our vehicles. Can you tell me who it was that was at work and said "Hey, lets put this worthless piece of crap tranny cooler on here. Thats a good idea". Was he/she high? Was it something that was left over from another model, like a minivan or something that needed to be used up? How did it get by with research and development? I mean, someone had to point that out... seriously. Whats the story? It has to be a good one.
The story is that the cooling people design, test, and release the cooler. All the trans people do is tell them the maximum allowable temps. The cooler people get the performance reviews based on how cheap they can make a cooler. They don't care about the trans, that's not their job.
I had MANY arguments with them. Finally Transmission Engineering woke up in 2003 and formed a transmission cooling group. That's when I went to that group. We were making progress improving the trans cooling, but then the group was disbanded in the engineering reductions in 2007. That's when I left Ford.
As to who the actual person was back then I have no idea. I wasn't involved with trans cooling back then.
Well got the tru-cool in today drove around pulling 6200lbs. I hit traffic hills highway all of it pushing her as hard as I could. She never went above 155 untill I started up the hill to my house very steep grade and put her in 1st then she went to 160. While unhooking the temp rose to 180 but never past that. I am happy.
