So if you put it in the location in the picture, what are you measuring?
My truck had a gauge on it when I bought it. The gauge is in the line to the cooler, so I figure that should be the hottest point in the system.
The temp at that location will show cooler than one in the cooler out line by quite a bit and it will show about 10-20 degrees cooler than the fluid temp sensor. But I think the pressure port is the best place for the sender. The line is alot more work to install and could easily give more leakage points also the temp difference won't matter

I would agree as well. Its there, its accurate so leave it where its at. Just know that you may see higher temps than some see with the probe other places. What temps do you see under different conditions?
I know this might sound ridicules to most of you but my trans guy said to mount two gauges, one on each line. That way you can tell not only the difference between the pressure line and return line but it tells you how well your cooler is working. It will also tell you right away if your cooler gets clogged.
TJ or Cuda, I have my tranny temp gague located there. here is my question. Should the tranny fluid level WHEN COLD be above that port? I have had some har time measuring it, and I think that my tranny dipstick MAY be the wrong one. I wouldnt think that it would be past that port, but I am not sure. Any info helps.
Todd I'm pretty sure the fluid level is above that port when the engine is off. I don't remember fluid coming out of it when I installed the sensor....could be wrong though, it's been a while
Fluid came out of mine when I installed it yesterday.... But my fluid level still shows about a quarter inch over the hot full line when running.... Its proably a good thing some fluid spilled out. Last night drove for about a hour not towing stayed at 150 when stopped at red lights went up to 160 once. Then left running in driveway for 30 min most it ever got was 175....
Pulling my 12,500 pound trackhoe on a 4000 pound trailer I see 185.
Pulling my 14k 5th wheel, I see 200 to 205 on 93 degree days. Is this normal? My 01 runs a little cooler tranny wise. I have the big cooler too, I might add another.
