I have a 97 F150 that has been sitting for a few months because I am driving my car. When I went to move it today, the battery was dead. I hooked up my booster pack, and the radio came on and the door chime was going off as if the key was in, even though it was not. I was able to start the truck and drive it, but when I shut it off, the radio stayed on.
I have changed the ignition switch, thinking that was the problem, but I still have the same problem. The radio and windows are still operational, even with the truck off and key removed. When I open the door, I get the chime like the key is in. I have also pulled every relay out of the fuse box and under the hood, nothing makes a difference.
It seems like the accessory function is on all the time. Any ideas? I have searched to no avail...
couple different options, but i wonder if you have a water leak in the front windshield above the steering wheel? is the floor wet? there is a computer box below the dash in this area. if the window leaks it is known to short out a few wires and "things" will go whack-i. another way to do it would be to have the igniton swith (not the key) short out. i think that is what you have changed already (switch?)
I am having the exact same problem. Did you ever resolve this in your 97. Mine is a 98. FWIW my problem started the moment I installed a new drivers side mirror. I can't imagine the two issues are related, but the timing was perfect. Test the new mirror, it works, remove the key, and the radio stayed on.
