door chime problems
My truck just recently started having this little problem. When I turn off the truck, and remove the key, the door chime keeps on dinging when the door is open. No key, no lights on, nothing. It's not the accelerated chime like when you leave your lights on, just the normal chime that should only happen when the door is open with the key in the ignition. Any ideas?

Does your interior light stay on also? Fords are known for the switch in the door sticking. You can spray a cleaner like WD- 40 or the likes,in the lock mechanism in the door and open and close it and wipe it out as good as you can and that usually solves it for a year or so. Then dirt and grime build up again so just do it again.

OK guys, I tore into it last night. On the inside end of the tumbler, there is a little clip with a metal contact and a wire running up under the dash. I accidentally pulled that little clip out, and the dinging stopped. When I touched it back to the tumbler, the dinging started, key or no key. So I figured out where this thing went, bent it back to what I thought was correct, and put it all back together. No more keyless dinging. However, now my steering wheel doesn't seem to lock when I take the key out. FIxed one problem started another. Anyone got any info on the steering wheel lock?

I know that wire works as a ground that completes the circuit when you turn your key, it is possible that the little clip is touching metal somewhere it should not be or perhaps the wire is going to ground else where. If I remember correctly when you put your key in it pushes a metal pin up that touches the little clip and creates a ground, either this pin is really dirty and not returning to its down position or they is a short to ground somewhere in that wire. Hope this helps.
