i just read a post about the seat belt light and made me think...
is there any way i can deactivate chime that comes on when i open the drivers side door if the keys are still in the ignition?
i like to have the radio on when i am cleanin my truck, but that ding ding ding really drives me up the wall.

I know that irritation as well but also have a fear of locking my keys in without a key pad entry. What I have done is (after washing and during dry off) I will open the rear slider and another window for tunes. Then you only hear the ding dingin when you are drying the driver door sills.
I have the key pad entry so i dont have to worry about locking the keys in there. but i do much the same as you when washing the truck.
i was more talking about when cleanin the interior - vacuumin the carpet or trying to clean that almost white tan leather. then i am spending considerable time w.the drivers door open and the ding ding ding drives me up the wall...
I thought that if you turn the key to where the dummy lights light up on the instrument panel, that the truck wouldn't ding like that. I would go out and check, but I'm at work right now and it's raining. I don't feel like getting soaked again.
If i turn it on just far enough for the radio to work, the chime still dings. i think even if the truck is running, the chime will ding w.the door open. if the truck is turned off it will ding.
as long as the key is in the ignition and the drivers door is open, it will ding.
OK, it was killing me, so I went out and checked. Sure enough, put the key in, turn it forward 2 clicks, the instrument panel lights up, radio comes on, there's about 5 chimes, then no more chimes after that.

You just don't want to leave it like that for too long, since all the accessories are powered up...make sure the fan, a/c, etc., are all turned off.
All you have to do is trip the door latch with a screwdriver, to make it think the door is closed. Just remember to pull the door handle and open the latch before closing the door when you are done. Sometimes you may have to use the screwdriver to pull the latch back open as you pull the handle. Hang a note on the door as a reminder to open latch before closing.
I have a 2004 Supercrew and succesfully disconnected the chime. That thing drove me nuts. I pulled off the lower shroud around the steering column (one screw) and removed the lower dash panel in order to pull the lower shroud out. The shroud is not easy to pull loose because it actually has a flange that sticks into the steering wheel. I found the wire coming off of the ignition switch that was hot when the key was inserted. There are about seven wires, some are big. This wire is small and it is one of three small wires, third one up from the bottom. it is brown(dark) with a stripe, but anyway take a test light or multi meter and check. I removed and inlsulated the wire, with shrink tube so that I can reconnect if needed. I have not had any problems with anything else not working and it has been 7 days. I assume the feature that won't allow you to lock your keys in your truck will not work anymore. I have keypad entry so I don't care.
I'm also grateful to Yob2kanobe.
I found it even easier on my '99 SD.
Only needed to remove fuse panel cover (below steering column). A 6-wire harness comes from the steering column to a six-pin connector. One of its wires (black and red on mine) is the obnoxious bad boy to snip and isolate.
To verify, you can use a 3-4 inch piece of insulated wire with 1/8th inch copper/ alum. exposed on each end to jump each CORRESPONDING male to female pin on the connector. The one which blasts the chime when jumped is your prey.
