Just put an 05 F-350 DRW on the road to replace my 04 F-350 SRW. The problem is that the 05 is a slug and the 04 will walk all over it. The 05 drives like my old 7.3 SRW I had.
Now I realize that the 05 is a DRW and has a little more weight to it but it also has 4:10 gears. The 05 also runs hot its will hit 950 on the EGT just driving up a hill,,empty.
Is there that much difference between a SRW & DRW?
No, there isn't. I've had both and the SRW will get going a bit easier but the 4.10 gears on the DRW should help quite a bit. How many miles are on the 05? Perhaps you could get the local dealership to do a re-flash for "driveability" concerns if it's still under the 100k warranty... It would cost a $100 but might be worth it.
You could have a stuck turbo making you produce little or no boost. Mine was stuck after sitting for a year before I bought it totaled, I ended up pulling the turbo and cleaning it. Try unplugging the VGT actuator wire from the turbo and see if it makes a difference. If no change that's most likely your problem.
Just got back from a long weekend. I have 78k on this one, I'll toss the DPF back on and make an appointment today. I was pulling about 26psi of boost but didn't hear the turbo actuate at idle so a reflashing or cleaning may be in order.
I have a 07 F-350 drw with a Edge Juice,4in w/o cat, ats torque converter and it only runs a 9 sec 0-60 and my 06 F-250 swb with the Edge evo runs a 6.5 0-60. But befor i had the evo i could still run around the f-350. I just figured that there are good and bad 6.0s. I took it to the dealer and told them it was slugish. they said the only way to fix that is a new motor. ($15000). He said some 6.0 are just bad.

I find that hard to believe, take your truck to another dealer and have them look at it. Stay as far away from that dealer as possible. Its probably something simple like a sticking EGR, Sticking turbo, or a refalsh. i would find it hard to beleive the only fix is a new engine. Yes there are "Bad 6.0's" but they are few and far between. Most of the bad ones are a product of there enviroment.
It takes a pretty large combination of out-of-spec components for an entire engine to be bad. Usually they just can't figure out the one source causing the problem so they just abandon the engine. I think there are bad 6.0s just because the mechanics don't know **** from apple butter.
Yep, got the call from Ford. Turns out the turbos vanes are sticking, needs a new rear main seal, some kind of stabizer bushing and the 4 wheel drive does not work. Since I've only had the truck for a couple of weeks I'll have them update the flashes and do a full service on it also. Anything else I should have them look at while it's there?
