I just bought a used 08 SuperDuty, now I got a question. I've never had the Keypad entry option before. In the owners manual it talks about the factory code being on a card in the glove box. . .as luck would have it, that is missing. It also said the code would be printed on the computer. Any idea of which computer, and were the computer would be found so I can program my keypad?
Hopefully you will get a more informative answer from another member here. I havent looked under my 08 yet but on past vehicles the computer you are looking for is either under the dash or behind a kick panel. It will be a 5 digit code. The other option is to contact the original dealer. Most (but not all) dealers will record the code on their copy of the invoice (along with the key codes) so they can retrieve that info pretty easily. If you dont know the originating dealer you can request an OASIS report through this website. See the tech section for details.
A dealer can also plug a scanner into yout computer and read the code, although most will charge you for this. If you purcahsed the truck at a Ford dealership you might be able to talk your salesman into giving you a freebie scan.
Yes,
IT's outdated :
Why is it outdated ? , But I love mine and use it all the time !
FORD and Insurance companys did a lot of research :
If you lock or leave your keys in the ignition , Someone breaks in and drives away !
People forget the numbers all the time
Sharing of cars means sharing of number's and they forget also
Cost
Failure rate: Wireless was replaced by hard wired a few years ago to help, but cost is now more of a issue.
It gave customers a False sence of security
So Whats coming :
A on star type remote un-lock
proximity key fob (keyless) and alarm
Dumb in down and Idiot proof it they said
I'm questioning this information about the keypad.
It states wireless went to wired but cost became an issue???
When were they wireless?
They've been wired for 20 years or more haven't they? I thought so. They were around before they wireless keyfobs.
Wireless was an after-factory option provided because of the popularity of the option, works as a key fob on the wireless keyless entry module. Wired units were still from the factory, at least up to 04.

When the Key pad first showed up on the superduty it was stick on and wireless to the module in dash . In 2005 It went to a Hard wired design with mounting holes in the door and Wires to the module.
