Laredo...other than a bum 6.0L, has your truck been a farily solid truck?? take into consideration how you drive it...
Hey, I take offense to that!
Sherm, other than the engine issues, its a very very solid performing truck. It gets drivin quite hard but the maintenance performed on it is superb as well - every fluid change recommendation as spelled out in the owners manual has been followed. The truck sits in a heated shop all winter so its never cold started. Lighter oil gets used in winter. I am **** about the warm up cool down period for diesel engines as I have grown up around expensive equipment all my life and know the importance of this; however, my truck was designed for working and it does that too but still looks damn near like new. The one problem has been the factory visor that came with the Lariat 'LE' package. Its over $2000 with the gasket and they do not vent air properly and it ends up cracking and vibrating. Normal wear items like front end stuff has been in line with everything else - its a heavy truck and our roads are poor! Doors, windows, cab structure is awesome. Electronic gremlins existed with some broken wires in the steering column from tilting the wheel. The truck does have some interior squeaks and rattles - the rear panels over the back speakers will make too much noise and we have tried quite a few things to stop that. I will be talking to a steroe shop about what they do - I absolutely cringe if a vehicle isnt tight as new while I own it. So, after being long winded, yes the truck is every bit as well built as a Dmax!!
Its just that after spending time with the Dmax / Allison vs the 6.0 / torqshift, I will not pull any punches either - the Ford drivetrain package isnt as polished as the GM.
The 6.4 does seem much more refined and upon driving three or four of them, they are vastly improved and have the potential to be as smooth as the Dmax except in the fuel consumption arena!
I said the truck is solid performing! The engine is substandard in terms of proper design, longevity, and dependability - I feel qualified to make that statement as I have lived the nightmare, paid the piper, and worn out the t-shirt. If you spent as much time in the service dept of the local Ford dealer talking to the techs and other owners, mine is more the norm than the exception! One phrase says it all -------> money pit!
Yeah no kidding lol but it doesnt surprise me.. the 03 and 04 model 6.0l where just 100% problematic or at least most of them i have heard some people say they have had 0 issues with there 03 04 6.0l
my biggest beef is that the navistar engine puts a black mark on the blue oval name... sure any engine can and will have problems, no matter what the make, but the early 6.0 was purely a nasty kick in the pants for ford. the triton v8's and 10's are awesome engines with great reliability and longetivity...

I have to agree 100% that is true and because of the 6.0l problematics a lot of people are skeptical to go near any Superduty with a 6.0 any year even the 6.4 a lot of people didnt think it was a good idea to buy one right away they thought it would be similar to when the 6.0l came out problematic

I think sales for that segment of vehicle have dropped sharply - with fuel prices its only the guys who either have money or 'need' a heavier truck that will buy them. I see the next chunk of a paycheck missing will be with food prices moving up.
That is true Laredo but I saw many posts in the Superduty threads asking how are the 6.4l because they where skeptical how they would be first off good or big disaster
