Anyone got a suggestion for upgrading the speakers on a '97 Explorer? Looking for better speakers with clean, no adaptation necessary, replacement. Thanks.
I believe that the factory speakers for the Explorer are the same as in my 97 F150. I recently replaced the factory's with Pioneer TSA-6815's and am very pleased with the results. They are made specifically to replace the Ford 6x8's, (no modifications needed, just plug them in) and sound alot better. If you shop around you can find them for around $70/pair.
How much money do you want to spend? What sizes are the cutouts? If I were you I would not go pioneer, for there are much better for the money. probably the best coaxs would be the KEF Uniq Q, Boston Pro, old Diamond Motorsport, Auro Mobile Reference, and a million others. What is your taste in music(bright, bassy, non-fatiguing, what?) Get back to me and I'll help you out.
At the moment I'm keeping my eye out for a good price on the Pioneer TSA-6815s. In answer to your question, the doors will take a 6 x 8 speaker. My preference is a 'bright' sound to a 'bassy' sound. Thoughts?
I put in the 5x7 Polk 2-way speakers and they sound great. I tried the Pioneer 3-way in one side and the Polk in the other and did a compare. The Polk sounded much better. I took back the Pioneer
