Quick Question

Hey All,

I just did some reading on the P0299 code. It appears that the general concensous is that I will have to get the turbo replaced. The question is I only drive this thing well its been about 500 miles since Feb. So not much. However I do take it out 1or 2 times a week and run it up to about 65-70 mph. I dont baby it once the engine is warm either.

Would you clear the code and just run it or should I just send it up and have them replace the turbo? It is still under warranty.

I removed the Banks PDA/ Six Gun and installed some guages. I had the High Ram intake off and the Intercooler Tube came off a few times due to oil in the flex tube. I took the flex hose/tube off cleaned both ends with brake cleaner and cleaned the intake/intercooler pipe and reclamped, drove it about 60 miles with no further problems. Just that the CEL came on and now has the code. Both the Boost guages never went above 30 psi. and the tuck ran perfect.

Thanks for the input as usual you guys rock.

Sarge

You would know better than most of us Sarge, but if it was mine Sarge, I'd reset the codes. If the turbo has serious problems they'll be back. Keeps you from having to undo a lot of work unnecessarily. And you know if they suspect you have done something to it (like add a tuner) they'll void the warranty.

Lots of luck.

Keep a good eye on those boost gauges because once you get a P0299 code you can also get an over boost which does not set a code, especially when towing.

sarge, the 299 set due to the tube blowing off. the pcm was reading boost then it was no boos, hence the 299 was set. since you removed the tuner and you had the hose issues, disconnect both batteries to let the pcm relearn, and you should be fine.

by the way when you over boost, a code is set, usually the 299.

Thanks BowTieHatr,

Thats what I was wondering I just didnt realize that it would take so long for the code to show up. It was like 60 miles later. Like I said it has been flawless since they had it in February. I do watch both boost guages anyway. If I clear the code with my scan tool will I still have to disconnect the batterys and turn the lights on?

Yes I should know better but I didnt know if it was caused by the I/C hose blowing off. I learn every day.

Well that is good to know because even though the ford service manual states that a P0299 is an under boost it can also mean an over boost. I just always thought that because the vains are sticking it was causing both an over and or under boost condition but the under boost was only setting the code. Thanks for the info.

299 is a turbo performance code. yes the pced states that it is for under boost, but the online books and print never really change.
