Even though superobertduty is coming off a little rough, he is right. Ford Motor Company will not cover an issue with the lights or the sheetmetal if they are installed after the factory. A dealer installing, or having them installed is not the same thing as FORD doing it. It is a common misconception that if a dealer adds something it is the same as it coming from the factory and it is not. I think that is his real concern with this modification, even if the chance of there being an issue is low. At the dealer I sold at for a little while, they sent stuff like that down the street to an aftermarket truck place. The customer probably thought it was all Ford stuff when in reality it probably wasn't.
I don't understand why everyone ditches the ESOF hubs. The first word out of anyones mouth when someone has a problem is "get rid of 'em". Yet I wouldn't own or recommend to anyone a 6.0 PSD, while many people would and have little problem with them. We each have our own ways and lists of concerns and things we are willing to take a chance on. In the end it is up to the individual.
An easy way to clear this up is ask the dealer doing the installation if THEY'll cover rust. And get it in writing.
I got rid of my ESOF hubs after one failed to latch going into 4HI. It'd lock for 40 seconds during the initial vacuum pulse, and then unlock. Turned out I had worn out the locking mechanism.
AND - when I was playing around in there, did you ever notice how WEAK the ESOF auto hub is? The locking ring is so small as to be laughable.
The Warns are certainly a BIG step up in strength.
who gives a **** about the holes...silicone will cover a multitude of goof-ups. i'd be more concerned with damaging the headliner during removal/installation...very good reason to let the dealer do it, IMO.
I say do it regardless of the warranty. Most people I know will sell/trade it on something newer in a few years before corrosion will ever (if ever) will be an issue anyway

Yeah, I admit they are. I don't deny that the manual hubs of any variety (even stock) are a lot stronger. The whole automatic mechanism is amazing that it works at all really. But it works for me, and I keep it freely working incase the vacuum fails. I considered keeping a manual hub or drive flange in the truck just in case but don't ever rely on the 4x4 that much. At most it would annoy me if it didn't work.
