Purchase Opinion
Currently have a '93 F250 that I love to drive. Does anything I ask of her. Alas, she's developing some pretty significant rust issues....nothing a weekend at a bone-yard for some new fenders and some playing with a welder can't cure....of course, then there's the coolant leak I can't find, and the fact that she's a reg. cab, no ac, no frills.
With $500 to $1,000, and some elbow grease, I'm sure I can get a number of years more service out of her without issue.....
Now for the purchase:
Our Company is a Ford shop - Construction - and we're rolling out a couple of our Manager's pickups - on-deck is a 2004 F250 SuperCab - High miles (165K) because it was manager driven from site to site, hauling materials and such. Auto, AC. While no rust, the bed and tailgate show she was a work truck. Was driven by one of the company VP's - all service performed on time - and I can pick it up for ~$4K. Question becomes whether a $4k Purchase on an '04 with nearly as many miles as my '93, given the maintenance history on the Co. truck versus the rust issues on my current rig, makes sense?
.......let the debate begin.....
Myself, I would go with the 04. The $4000.00 seems like a fair price and if the truck has been well maintained, it sounds like a pretty sweet deal. Assume it has the 5.4 V8, which is a good engine.
Good luck
