Anybody have pics of how the trans-automatic kickdown should be set and adjusted? 79 Bronco, 351M, still factory style two-barrel. The linkage is hooked up but the spring is gone. I would like to get it hooked up and adjusted and working properly incase some speedster trys to run me over and I can't shift down a gear to get rpms up to move outta the way.
I have a friend that has a pickup with a 351m and it has an adjustable throttle linkage. My Bronco has a throttle cable that is to long and the pedal is almost on the floor. Where do I find a linkage or shorter cable?
Try bending the gas pedal rod that the cable is attached to. You will have to take the pedal assembly out but it can be done. The kickdown rod does not use a spring. It mounts on a post that is attached to the carb. There is a small screw that is used to adjust when you want the kickdown to start to operate, adjust that.
What steps do I need to take to adjust the kickdown? I think your supposed to adjust it with the throttle held in full open position then adjust so there is a certain distance between the screw and throttle plate. Im not exactly sure though.
