I am trying to remove the torque converter, then the transmission . I am having trouble finding the size of the nuts on the torque converter. I have tried several sizes but, it is difficult to reach and to see.
can anyone tell me the nut size?
Sears sells a nice starter set of 6 point metrics in 3/8" drive. They range from 10mm to 18mm. Be sure to get the 6 point and not 12 point. You cannot really do much mechanic work on vehicles these days without a set of metrics.
Just to add to the confusion, I removed those 4 nuts from the torque converter using a 14mm socket. It's a much closer fit.
Working on the Aerostar is about the only time I actually go through most of the sockets in every metric set I have; deep well, short, 3/8" drive, 1/2" drive, and I end up using all of my extensions. It's really quite extraordinary.
