I have a 1996 with a rough idle. To me when I am standing by the exhaust it pops like a gasoline engine with a burnt valve. Normal? Runs out strong and gets 20 mpg when I drive with my big toe and not my big fat foot! But it idles rough.
Thanks Jim, 2000 miles on my oil change but mostly in town. Fuel filter last week and air filter onmy list for today. i will try the oil and air before a $100 scann.
That's great, hopefully it won't return. Sometimes the PCM is just confused.
BTW: Try pulling #22 & #9 fuses under the hood to reset the PCM.
Doesn't always work but it's an easy to do.
7.4 ?? Your engine has grown by .1 L
Sorry had to do it
Rough idle continues but only when it warms up. Smooth as a pair of silk panty hose when cold but lopes when it gets warm. Sounds like it's running on 7 1/2 cyl until you get it out on the road then it smooths right out. Anything above 1200 RPM runs smooth.
New air filter, oil change has 1,000 miles on it. Fuel filter has about the same as the oil.
Ideas?
Hi Justin just curios have you changed your injector o rings? or are they original just wondering because my 96 is in need of injector o rings and mine does exactly what yours is doing even more now since I put in a 203 stat just a suggestion it may not be you problem.

Here is a great article from Kim Lux on injector inter workings.
My 7 1/2 cylinder problem was slightly different than yours but I had rough idle too. Two things to check. Check your fuel pressure at the schrader valve with a gauge. Mine was doing the bounce routine that comes from a shot fuel pump, thats where my miss was coming from. 2 cycle oil in the fuel has made a real differance in smoothness and noise in mine. Split a quart of outboard oil between your tanks at next fuel up. The results came very quick in mine and I run it all the time now. If it works for you do some shopping and buy it in bulk to save a bunch.
while getting it scanned ask them to moniter ipr duty cycle cold through warm up. you need to see what the ipr is commanded to, to see if you have an oil leak developing at hot oil temps. could be as simple as an ipr o-ring up to injector o-rings.
