Developed bad missfire with flashing cel light. I think I have bad gas/water in the tank. I had replaced the plugs and wires recently. Pulled codes P0301,P0304 out of it. I did an injector flush and added dry gas and octane booster and ran the van shuddering and all to E on the tank. Put 6gals of fresh gas in and still have that shudder. It is misfiring. Is it possible to have damaged the recent spark plugs under these conditions? I will change the fuel filter today.
Ok, what engine. If you have the 4.0L, it uses coil packs, and one coil cylinders # 1 and #4. Test the primary and secondary resistance of the coil, and if it is not in specs, buy a new coil pack.
No wires are autolite with autolite double plats. Engine ran fine until bad gas introduced I dont have the powertrain manual to test the coil however at $68 at Autozone a replacement coil I just purchased will elimanate the coil pack. Will let you know how it worked out.
was the gas old, dirty or contaminated with water.
if yes to any above, time to pull injectors and have professionally cleaned, 2 are plugged/gummed up.
coil is not the problem. never seen a Ford EDIS coil pack fail, they're bullet proof except for connector corrosion
Yes to all the above . I will put another set of plugs into it. They look pitted on the electrode when i took them out, I had a half tank of bad gas and ran it to the E. I cleaned the injectors with the Napa pressurised injector cleaner at 35psi today.I will have to wait to pull the injectors as I need to do a700 mile round trip this week. The coil I replaced did improve the miss however as you said the old one was probably ok.
fuel filter is probably plugged and gummed up from the bad gas also
Shell just had a refinery/tank farm problem here. forgot to add the octane additive and cleaner but I'm hearing it was worse than that. they had a pipeline pig fail and mix diesel with gas.
good luck with the miss.
i fought one all winter, finally found the cause this spring.
