Mass air flow sensor?

Mass air flow sensor?

I was looking at my airfilter box and i see the plug in the box and im considering an intake but first is this the mass air flow sensor? and if so do you guys drill a hole for the plug?

Which thing are you talking about? There are two gizmos in a PSD airbox- a filter minder and an Air Intake Temp (AIH) sensor. No MAF on a diesel. The filter minder is a big plastic doo dad, the AIH is the small "sensor" in the back of the stock airbox near the brake master cylinder.

As far as going to an aftermarket intake- just zipty the AIH out of the way (no effect on performance). The filterminder has to be dealt with differently depending on if yours has the wires going to it or not.
May I suggest as your best choice for an intake the DIY 6637 intake:

Actually, for what its worth, I am almost 100% certain the 6.0s and newer have MAF sensors. However, our 7.3s do not. As you said, the two sensors in our OEM airbox are the air intake temp, and filterminder, to measure restriction.

6.0's don't count in my book I was not aware of that fact, thanks for pointing it out.

Both were unplugged after I went to the 6637........never had any issues since.

I actually think all the common rail style diesels do aswell. I remember seeing info about somebodys aftermarket intake causing codes/trouble on the 6.4s. However, Im really not up to date on other motors. But Im pretty sure the big 3 all have MAFs now.
