Wilson & Co thanks for the name calling. Just jumping in there and don't even know me. You're just stirring the koolaid and don't even know what flavor it is.
I didn't call you a name. I said I hate those types of people. And trust me I know the flavor because I've been screwed before by "helping" ppl on the internet out.
I've have a question, did a quick search, and this was the closest thread regarding it... let me know if this is appropriate or if I should just start a new one.
I just bought my X and it had 2 roof crossmembers. From this picture, it is #1. Does the X also come with #3 b/c mine did not...?
In any case, the plastic clips on the crossmembers (all of them) are slightly broken and 1 of the metal strip that slides inside the rail is broken (the hole where the clip goes into is torn). I would like to replace it but I can't seem to find just the plastic clips or the metal strip. I'd hate to have to purchase whole new crossmembers because of this. But, if I have to, I'll look for some after-market ones because the original doesn't look like their durable.

Some have gone to the Thule, or Yakima racks because of the weaker oem's, and not many accessories go on them. I ended up lifting the rails, (#2 in picture) up and using the #3 screw on ends on the #1 bars. I did have to slightly modify the #1 ends to do this but that was minor.
You either go after market, or try and get some ones take off's that have gone aftermarket.
I have a couple of the larger ones (#1 in the picture) that you can have. Not sure of the condition. I removed them the first day I brought it home. Cover shipping and they're yours.
I offered them to someone else about a year ago and forgot who it was. If that person is reading this, PM me by Monday and you an have them. If not, they're fair game to whomever PMs me first.
That would be very generous and greatly appreciated. I can send you a prepaid shipment label and even arrange for pick-up at your convenience. I'll PM you offline with the info, if that's cool.
Mahalo Ken, I appreciate your generosity anyway for helping the rest of us out- that is very cool! Which side on the Big Island do you live? Of all the islands, that is our favorite. We've been there twice and stayed in the condos in the Waikaloa Village.
KCAsound, from reading your earlier post, it sounds like you already purchased the crossmembers from eBay but you're missing a couple of the metal clips that are sandwiched in the "C" rails. I was wondering if you would be willing to part with any that you don't need from Monsta's set? Mine are completely broken and unusable. I'd also be very appreciative if you can share any of the plastic clamps that you don't need. Mine are broken, but are useable.
I live just outside of Honoka'a in a place called Pa'auhau. As you may remember, Honoka'a is on the Hamakua Coast and is the town you must go through to get to Waipio Valley. I am just south of that town. I used to live in Waikoloa but it didn't suit my tastes.
KC,
If you don't mind a question, why are you using the stock crossbars? One of my first mods was to remove them. Too close to the roof, I already had wear marks, and no flexability or options. I now have four Yakima bars with two fairings and a Space Case, canoe mounts, kayak mounts, bike mounts, ski racks, who knows what else. The point being I now have a sturdier mount that gives me more flexability and no missing paint on the roof.
Just curious.
Simple. I'm cheap and didn't want to buy expensive bars. I searched the web and junk yards and found all my factory crossbars. The two Yakima racks I have about $300 into the pair of them with two extensions each. My racks run from about a foot from the windshield all the way to the rear of the truck. I have a total of eight crossbars for each truck. I think that's pretty sturdy. As for paint wear I have some pretty sturdy foam that I have 3M glued to the underside of the rails. I haven't noticed any paint wear but that doesn't mean there isn't any.
I have no problem with cheap. I'm a big fan of cheap. Hey, I am cheap. I shopped like crazy for my bars, and then the accessories. I even scored my Space Case at the G. I. Joe's going out of business sale.
Anyway, that sounds like quite a cantilever if you are going to within a foot of the windshield with your load. I think I would want to be in front of you on the road...

Lol. I'm a little smarter than that. The reason I extended the rack up there is because sometimes I load a few step bar boxes up there when I'm installing for my customers. Most the time my truck is loaded with tools and car audio gear. I went with the longer extension since my spare is up there as well and took some of the room. Step bars aren't that heavy. I've occasionally loaded some luggage up there and covered with a tarp but I am always aware of the weight limits up top. My other lifted Ex has a Road Armor swing arm rear bumper mount for the spare on the back. I sometimes put a half inch plywood floor in the roof cage so that we can sit on top of the truck at the mud runs or somewhere we need to sit high. I have 37s and a 8inch lift on that one. Gets us above the crowd...lol
