I was thinking of buying a JL Audio 12" Sub to go behind the seat of my 86 F-150 regular cab pickup. I want to get alot of bass out of it and I want it to be loud. The guy recommended a 250 watt kenwood amp to push it. Is this enough power for this sub? Or should I get a bigger amp? The guy is cutting me a great deal on all of it. The sub, a truck box to put it in, and the amp all for $300.
Thanks
Mark
JL is one of if not the best brand on the market. They have won several awards. As far as the amp rating, check out the RMS and MAX amperage on the sub. I usually go for something a little less powerful than the max rating on the sub so that I'm guaranteed not to blow it.
hi i'd recommend that you get rockford fosgate or kicker speakers since there distance that they travel is much greater. with those speakers you can drive them much harder for the rating that the commpany gives. Also what ever you choose to buy try and stick with the same brands
Well JL is one of the best subs out there, i've had a kicker (given to me) and they dont hold up in the long run you'll buy 2 of them to 1 JL and kenwood should stick to home audio !
im buying 2 12" JL W3's from a friend and a 1000 rms amp to power em with the right box tuning they should hit 150db easyily these will be going in a 2000 F150 Extended Cab
Well thats what i got to say hope it helped.... oh and the 2 12's im gettin are 3 months old (used) and im paying $400 for the pair
I can't speak to the kenwood car audio thing, but they make some good home audio stuff. I have installed two JL 12W3's in a friends suburban with a sony explod 750 watt amp bridged on each sub. Let me tell you that truck sounds awesome! The JL's are poundin the hell out of everything he drives by. He had to upgrade his electrical sys. to handle the two amps though.
Good luck on whatever you do.
>I'm just wondering, but is JL------> JBL?????? because i've
>heard JBL's are excellent subs. thanx.
JL and JBL are two different companies! JL Audio is awesome. JBL dont know much about. I am running 3 10W0's in my truck listed below with a rockford fosgate 1000 watt amp with the subs bridged to 2ohms, they hit so hard and just sounds incredible. I have always had JL Audio subs in my cars/trucks and always will!

jbl is alright, the guy you were talking about at the audio store is good, all rms ratings lie. usually 100 watts under what they say, you usually have to compensate with the amp rms too, they lie too haha. 1 12 will give you bass but it wont be quick, my advice to you is to sell that 12 and go get 2 10's, i love the kicker vrs, really really good 10's for the price. hope this helps
