The dodge MPG read out is known as a lie-o-meter. Most people say that thing is off as much as 5 MPG. The average 6.7 mileage I've seen is around 12-13 city, 15 highway
my 450 is off .8 and our Armada 2.2 on an average. Is the Dodge lie-o-meter set up like the Ford or does it give instant mpg? Our Vette gives instant. On the Highway it will show 26-28 mpg but averages about 18 hand calc.
On my dads '03 GMC Envoy, it can give you both average milage and instantaneous. Both are seem just to accurate. Average is about 15.8 MPG, and instantaneous will read as low as 2-3 MPG during hard acceleration, and 14-17 during highway travel.
I really wish a "WISE MAN" would close this thread. It is so far off topic that I will quit reading. And some of the posts above insult ones intelligence. You know you can hit your reset button, go down hill, set your cruise and get fantastic mileage, but guess what, read the first post.
The originator was talking about FORD junk. I vote for an honorable, magnanimous death for this thread; and if not, then let us all add whatever we want!!!!!!
The reprogramming deals with regenerations, engine calibrations and EGR. This should greatly improve your fuel consumption.
Right on: My boy is a Ford diesel tech and came down for a visit last week. He brought his laptop with the latest software and reflashed my J1 08 F250. I Was getting a steady 13.2mpg empty for quite a while. Now under the same driving conditions am getting 15.6. He also did the high idle mod with the upfitter switch so I can run the AC for extended time when parked.

Cool, it looks like things are headed in the right direction for the 6.4.
That is the kind of news I like to hear. I am just not ready to start taking parts off and modifying yet. I am going to give Ford time to figure out the right fix.
Ive been in my buddys 08 duramax while towing on 3 different trips. 1 to NM (1500 miles rt) towing a 52 foot trailer with 3 rigs on it and twice towing a 28' enclosed trailer with a 4,000 # buggy in it. (about 11,000 #) both my ford and his truck are running lifts and 35" tires and 4.10 gears... he avg about 11-12 mpg empty and 6 1/2 - 8 mpg towing....same as my truck . the lie-o-meter is pretty accurate for both our trucks when left alone for extended trips.....dont know about the new dodge but i think the emissons is killing all three.

whats the upfitter a/c mod?
When one of the upfitter switch wires are connected to a certain wire under the dash it raises the idle to 1200rpm so that the AC can be used for more then 10min which is the factory recommended maximum idle time for the 6.4. When you turn off the switch the idle drops to normal. The mod is factory approved.
Yeah both my buddies 6.7 is 13 city 15 highway. Ford is right there with them and I have riden in both of their trucks as well!!!! Now the 5.9 makes everything look bad...
Even makes the truck look bad...(dodge i mean).
hate those things
I've got an 08 dmax lmm 3/4 ton. I get 11-13 towing or regen'ing (depending on various factors). 3.73 rear-end, no lift. 17.4 avg. as a daily driver - that includes regens.
I'd also like to ad that is a little lower then my lb7 dmax that got 13-14mpg towing and 19 mpg daily respectively
Yup no matter what brand you are driving now days. The fuel mileage wont be good. Oh well with that being said Ford outclasses them all by far. If I could just get DMAX to see the light. Mmmmm well we put a man on the moon. Anythings possible. JK man. Hope your enjoying these high diesel prices. Sorry now back on topic.

Still wouldn't mind having DMAX fuel milage. towed 17k 1329 miles this past week from Mass to Ohio down to Va Beach computer shows 8.6 so hand calc will only be about 8.1. Towing is quite amazing though. Added a bike rack to the front of the 5ver. towed smoother having the weight on the truck, but I believe I lost about 1/2 mile per gallon. The truck was downshifting more often on grades, aerodynamics have a lot to do with it too.

Like towing better out of cruise control, except it is hard to feel the speed, it was very easy to creep above the speed limit. It was like sitting in your favorite livingroom chair watching TV. Pic below of bike rack that hurts aerodynamics. might have to go with a air deflector.

You wire into the seic system thru one of you upfitter switches and it idles the truck up for applications such as PTO operations and additional idle up for extra charge like in an rescue truck ect. You can also use it for cold warm up or like the poster said, the ac.
