Why, I feel exactly like him. I actually am kicking myself more than anything. I did not check out the fuel economy claims as much as I should have. I passed on a pre - emissions dodge that I should have bought and I would be enjoying 17-18 mpg instead of the crap I get now.
You have some similar problems I went through . With last being issues with leaking radiator. Which I now find is a common problem (hopefully not recurring). Glad I spent the extra dollars to extend warranty to 75K b-b
To many engine problems for engine built after Jan/Feb last year.
I wish I had my 6.0 back I had figure out all its issues were related to cheap fuel (wrong PPM) and quality oil changes. Us good filter, good oil and good diesel (sticking to chevron).
Never had issues after that. Same rules have helped with my 08 but still had bad injectors, oil leak, radiator leak, regen issues.
keeping fingers crossed I have 5K of vacation travel on it since last repair (radiator) and we are in the 113degree temps out side so if any thing will do it in, all though so far every thing I see it seems to like heat but not cold operations.
Had more trouble at 40-50degrees operating temps then any other range.
WoW so much negativity on the 08 6.4. Seems like everyone is driving a lemon. I must be an exception 08 J1 with 38K and never had a problems. If all the other trucks are lemons then I must have gotten a peach.

what people tend to forget is that people come on forums, for the most part, to figure out how to fix a problem they are having. if 100 people come on here and complain about a problem, then it seems like the truck is a piece of crap and that every one on the road has problems. but thats 100 out of about 1 million trucks. you dont see too many posts like, hey, so i took my truck to the store today and it did great. made it there and back without any problems lol.
sorry guys if you don't believe me, honestly I could care less what other people think. I was just venting a little on making a huge mistake and upgrading my 04 to the 08. I wish I had kept the 04, by the way its back in the shop again. This time I hope they can fix the problems, Like I said I am a FORD man but I really think that anything you buy today is mostly all junk. the best truck I ever had was the Ford 7.3, at least I could work on it. these new trucks are Cluster "F" of components with no way to get at anything to fix it.
i know in md. it has to be in the dealer 3 times for the SAME problem to be lemon lawed. unless it is steering, suspension, or brake related. then you only need twice. all has to be in the first i beleive 12k miles. im not sure on the mileage but positive on the rest. i used to work at the dealer and we did have a lemon once. it was a fusion with all sorts of electrical probelms.
We have a 6.4L Job 1 and other than a defective DPF have had no problems what-so-ever. It is a strong truck and pulls our 13K plus 5th wheel effortlessly. However IF I had it to do over again I would not purchase the 6.4L. I underestimated the MPG. I thought most of the numbers I was seeing were due to improper driving habits. When you do 12K miles a year or more towing at @ 10MPg and at the price of Diesel fuel 2 or 3 mpg makes a big difference. The fact is any of the big three will pull my 13K plus 5th wheel effortlessly.. I should have purchased the Cummins..not as pretty but makes the 6.4L look really bad. Ford should be ashamed of themselves. We have had 3 Ford Trucks and this is the first time we have been disappointed.
the grass isnt always greener on the otherside.....check out the other forums for dodge and chevy someday, and remember take whatever fuelmileage they claim and knock atleast 2 off, you dont know how many guys i k now that claim 20 in their trucks and i ride with them and they dont crest 13-14 at 55mph..... if diesel was a buck a gallon nobody would be saying a word...... trucks are trucks.. they arent built for mileage, bobbyg, FIND A NEW DEALER half of your complaints, If even true, sound like they didnt do it right, of of the number one ford dealers in MN has prolly the worst diesel techs.. you nnever know who you are deALING with. get a second opinion.

Agree with fruth04. Before I traded our V10 most diesel owners I talked to; Ford,Chevy,Dodge said "I get 12mpg towing and 18 mty" was the standard answer. Guys around the campfire have a tendency to exaggerate when talking. This FTE web site sets us straight and the real truth comes out. With the new Fords the drive tranes are so heavy duty. Trucks are heavier, We are paying extra for those clean emissions. I do believe the twin turbo does eat up the fuel more over 2,000 rpms. If I had to do it over again I would probably go with a 350 3.55s with a 6 speed manual. Would still go with the Ford for sure. Driving it is like sitting in your favorite living room recliner listening to a great stereo sound. You almost forget you are driving it is so enjoyable.

I have 2 buddies with the new 6.7 dodge and 1 with the new duramax. None of them get any better than mine. The DPF is killing the mileage and there is a way to fix that!!!
I do not rely on the forums for accurate information on MPG,we run with the other two brands, new trucks comparable campers. When you are face to face with the driver they tend to be truthful. the New durimax does not do much better pulling but does much better solo,,The new Dodge does much better pulling and solo. We are lucky to average 10MPG at 63/65 MPH towing and 15/18 solo. The new Ford is by far the worst in MPG...
When you are running with a Cummins pulling the same camper and you both pull in for fuel time after time and you can look over and see what he pumps and what I pump and do the numbers..It is embarassing. I am not knocking the Ford but the numbers tell the tale. The Ford has the ride of a luxury car and side by side with the GM or Dodge the Ford stands out. Can't tell you how many times we have been stopped in Campgrounds by folks wanting to check out the 08 Ford.. However..If I had it to do over..I would have to go with the cost effective Cummins. Now if I did not pulll 12/15K miles a year
i would stay with the pretty Ford.
The comments about 6.4 MPG really amaze me. This is a TRUCK, engineered to haul or tow large numbers.
Our 99.5 F-450 7.3 PSD dually had a GCWR of 26,000# and got 11 MPG around town and 7 MPG towing our 18,000# fiver. Our new 08 F-450 6.4 dually (job 2) has a GCWR of 33,000# and gets 11.5 MPG around town (haven't towed with it yet)
Heavy duty trucks which have been engineered by the manufacturer to tow heavy loads AND meet new government standards are not going to match the MPG standards of yesterdays vehicles or light duty trucks.
Take a deep breath and face reality. If you want a truck to get the same performance results as a car, don't buy a Super Duty!!!!
