Broken Front Spring

Well thats done it . Ive just found the reason for the sag on the right hand side. Front main leaf broken accross the top of the axle. $490 from my dealer here in Aus. But I note that ford recomends renewing the U bolts at the same time. Is there a reason for this or are they just trying to get a few more $ from me?

U-bolts

They say that they should be replaced any time the nuts are loosened, but I have had mine off of the truck 3 times and they are still going strong, even after 3 years.

If you ever wanted a lift now is the time. I love the ride of my 4" Donahoe Racing springs (now Icon Vehicle Dynamics), way better than stock.

Does that include installation (I hope)? If not list price for X-Code springs is like $209. I found them on Ford Genuine Parts Online for $138 plus shipping. Never order anything from them but it was a good price.

Guys keep in mind. 1) He's in austrailia. 2) springs are heavy.

It may not be a great price, but it is 245 a piece or so. It's not unreal. I think when I was looking at front springs for my 97, they were a decent price around 180 each from a spring shop. That was a couple of years ago too.

Oh I didn't see he was from Australia. I think he was saying it was $490 per spring not for both. The list price I gave per spring was in USD and I know the AUD is about the same value so it could (probably) be Ford has a much higher list price in Australia.

You blokes are an the money when you say Ford has a much higher list price in Australia.
That $490 is below Ford list and is about $US515 and doesnt even include installation or freight. Another example - Auto hubs are shot- they want $us420 per side for originals & manuals are available for $us430 a pair. I'm going to try getting some parts direct from US. Couldn't be dearer but springs are heavy

Hmm, re-reading it, well now I'm not sure! He doesn't say. I was assuming TWO since that would be really bad for one, and I would do them in pairs, in the front at least. Think he would chime in again!

There's a guide on here somewhere on rebuilding the stock hubs, doesn't look like too bad a job and a lot cheaper than new ones.
