On this day in 1966: In Miranda v. Arizona, the U.S. Supreme Court holds that police must inform criminal suspects of their legal rights before arresting and questioning them.
It's been downhill for the justice system every since.

The most famous case in CA was that of Gregory Powell who shot down LAPD Officer Ian Campbell in cold blood in a agricultural field near Bakersfield CA.
This story was immortalized in Joseph Wambaugh's book "The Onion Field."
At Campbell's funeral, bagpipes were played for the first time...it has since become an LAPD tradition.
